Georgian Brass Combination Lock Casket, Probably England. 18th Century.
Georgian Brass Combination Lock Casket, Probably England. 18th Century.
Rare combination lock table casket, possibly for tobacco or money. Made in from pieces of solid brass, solded at seams with a well executed engraved floral border surrounding the lid. Interesting long rectangular carrying handle The combination dials evoke clock faces, with numerals one through twelve and when all three pointers are properly aligned the bolt underneath the lid can be moved into the open position. Charming hand-made piece, well worn with rubbed surfaces. Signed “J. Stevenson” on lid. This casket relates to snuff box design of the period which also used three dials combination locks. Signed "J. Stevenson"
Rare to find a combination lock mechanism of a brass casket this size. The floral engraving is also atypical.
